KOSTA BODA - 260 Years of Glassmaking

 When you buy and give Kosta Boda, you're buying and giving history - a lineage of great design and craftsmanship that has endured for more than 260 years.

Although there are various ranges of designs in Kosta Boda glasses, and when you purchase one, this is the only ONE in the world you are holding on to, as all are hand-painted or hand-made by the artists or designers themselves. Therefore, no two pieces are alike in details.

Some of these designer glasses from centuries ago are being auctioned at Christie's Fine Arts Auction House for several thousands and millions of dollars.

To know if the glass is authentically from Kosta Boda, each piece must bear the burnt-in stain of signature and identification number by the artist or designer. That is, each glass has its own identification number.

Below are some of the collectibles which we have for sale. If you search the web or visit any Kosta Boda outlets in the world, you won't find these with the same details. Therefore, when you purchase the piece from us, you are the only one owning it in this world. The beautiful items below are done by the artists some 30 years ago and we managed to acquire directly from Kosta Boda in Copenhagen, Denmark.

These collectibles increase in value as time passes by and as the artists move on to newer designs, these will eventually become antiques.

Bertil Vallien born in 1938. Retained by Kosta Boda since 1963. By far the most internationally celebrated glass artist and designer in Sweden. He has received numerous awards and his work is well represented in leading museums around the world. He is known most of all as the master of sand moulding. Aside from his artistic work he is a highly skilled and successful industrial designer, his creations include Château, one of the best-selling ranges of handmade glasses over the years.

Ulrica Hydman-Vallie born 1939. Retained by Kosta Boda since 1972. One of Sweden's best known and most popular artists, whose unmistakable figures can be seen on Ericsson mobile phones and the tails of British Airway's airplanes, among other places. Her most important form of expression is through her glass designs, however, which also played a large part in Kosta Boda's success in the 1980s and 1990s. She paints her striking and humorous designs straight onto the glass with free and unrestrained energy. Her distinctive female faces, tulips and snakes have decorated big-selling classics such as Open Minds, Tulipa and Caramba. Her work is exhibited on museums and collections all over the world.

Gunnel Sahlin born 1954. Retained by Kosta Boda since 1986, she has a studio at Kosta glassworks. A generous and forceful modernist whose designs are elegant yet at the same time gentle and fluid. She now works mostly in clear glass, with restrained but effective dashes of color, but has also achieved recognition for glass creations with areas of opacity made up of matte, non-transparent or semi-transparent. She is very confident in her manipulation of color, shape and volume of glass
